Billy Gillispie to Texas Tech
Channel 11 in Dallas is reporting that Texas Tech has hired Billy Gillispie as it's next basketball coach. 104.3 FM is also reporting that Gillispie will be introduced as Texas Tech's new coach on Wednesday. I've tried to confirm this and oddly enough Texas A&M's (one of Gillispie's former coaching stops) Facebook page is also confirming this report. All I know is channel 11 is about to get swamped with phone calls.
Recently Gillispie had been rumored as a possibility at Wyoming. SportsbyBrooks also confirmed the interest earlier today:
I’ve also been told that there was a major push by Wyoming boosters to try to get Billy Gillispie some consideration for the job. Despite the search firm involved in the process signing off on BCG and school president Buchanan also approving of Gillispie consideration, AD Burman nixed an interview for the former Kentucky coach. That despite Bill Self personally calling the school to recommend his former assistant at Tulsa after Gillispie made it known he had interest in the job. (Regardless of what you may hear, he did.)
With the firing of Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel rumors had also started to heat up that Gillipie could be a candidate for the Sooners head coaching job.
UPDATE: It's now Official. Billy Gillispie will be the next coach of Texas Tech.

ReplyDeletedo the ladies come with billy?
ReplyDeleteis that what billy was pulling in kentucky? now i know why he came back to texas
ReplyDeleteLook, Gillispie is a top flight coach. His problems here came from him having to deal with pressures that go along with the UK job. And no one can have any idea what thise are unless they have walked a mile in the coach's shoes.
ReplyDeleteHis alcohol problems seem to now be behind him as well.
Something that Gillispie never had to deal with before he came to UK was having top 10 tier athletes at his school. They can be a challenge to handle, and he did not do very well in handling them, which he later admitted. Gillispie will make Tech a great coach.
